Jaguar Land Rover Automatic Valet Parking
Automatic Valet Parking is a feature built on the socialization of valet parking, this feature has the ability to use ADAS (Advanced driver-assistance systems) to improvise and autonomously find a parking spot, adding convenience to the driver’s life and assists with an aspect of driving that drivers find the most challenging.
We started the project with an extensive audit of pre existing features in part or in whole by our competitors in the luxury autonomy market. This then lead to mapping system architectures and eventually building our own with use cases generated from a collaborative design session.
Testing Auto Valet Parking
During our testing I lasercut a series of building, obstacles, roads and vehicles to orient our participants in a more visual space. While it looks like playing, we found that we got much higher participant engagement and it helped their imagination when it came to the understanding and application of this technology.
International Testing
We wrote a test script that allowed parallel tests to happen internationally in both the UK and China. Complied insight reports to be shared amongst the international teams and implemented design changes in the interactive prototype. Using a string management tool we input our english strings and provided them to China for translation and localized a mirror of our english prototype in Chinese.
Proto.io Prototypes
Using a combination of tablets and smartphones preloaded with our proto.io prototype we attempted to simulate the driving conditions and orientation of the screens with the tablet representing the infotainment. Designed User Test script with 60+ participants over a period of 8 weeks. Moderated User tests in the U.S., wrote and edited script throughout this iterative process. After 3 User Tests followed by rounds of design updates, exploration and edits our prototype received a usability score (SEQ) of 6.7/7 points.
