UniFi Portal (Site Manager)

Designing UniFi Portal mirrored city planning, with applications as skyscrapers and the portal as infrastructure, ensuring seamless organization and connectivity. Previously, IT managers needed separate accounts for different deployments, locations, and platforms. The new system introduced a global “bird’s-eye” view, streamlining oversight, improving efficiency, and enabling resource savings. Beyond immediate impact, UniFi Portal sets the stage for scalable expansion.

Strategy Research

We conducted interviews with various IT site managers to understand their current needs and challenges. Our goal was to make the UniFi Portal scalable, encouraging IT managers to expand and sustain their UniFi deployments. This process led to a competitive analysis of platforms that offer multi-platform management.

Device Features

The UniFi portal simplifies deployment planning and inventory management, addressing the issue of redundant user lists for administrators managing multiple locations and spaces.

ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT

APP SWITCHER

The app switcher is a tool that allows users to quickly navigate throughout the system. This tool is especially relevant for admins who need to navigate and manage a global system with multiple application.

NOTIFICATION STRATEGY

We centralized all platforms and revamped our notification strategy, making it globally accessible for administrators, eliminating the need to check individual platforms for updates.

AUTHENTICATION

The UniFi Talk Dashboard is a centralized place for managers to view their call overviews, call log, subscription information, and track the quality of call experience.

Improved Graphic Library

I directed a series of graphics created by the Ubiquiti 3D team for UniFi Portal—called hero images. These visuals represent features not covered by hardware images, using a playful, minimal style to enhance the brand's visual language and simplify hardware representation for future adaptability.

Conclusion

Designing UniFi Portal was akin to city planning—the applications being the skyscrapers, and UniFi Portal serving as the system for planning, organizing, and connecting them for seamless accessibility. Additionally, it sets the foundation for the scalable expansion of the UniFi family beyond its original platforms.
