Infotainment System (PIVI.2)

As a staff designer on the automated driving team, I led the redesign of Jaguar Land Rover’s infotainment screen to better align with its premium brand. The outdated system lacked distinction, so we introduced a flexible, customizable interface and a webstore for dashboard personalization, enhancing user experience and brand identity.

Strategy Research

The first step in our UX design process involved an in-depth exploration of user needs and expectations. Through user interviews, surveys, and usability studies, we gained valuable insights into how drivers interact with their vehicles and what features are crucial to their driving experience. This user-centered approach laid the foundation for our redesign efforts.

Redesigning the infotainment screen involved streamlining navigation and redefining the information hierarchy. The user interface was crafted to prioritize essential driving information, such as navigation cues and automation status, while minimizing distractions. Clear visual cues and an intuitive menu structure were implemented to enhance usability.

Device Features

Consistency in visual design was a key consideration to maintain a cohesive brand identity across Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles. The UX design ensured a harmonious blend of aesthetics, incorporating brand colors, typography, and visual elements that resonated with the luxury and sophistication associated with these iconic automotive brands.

VEHICLE WEBSTORE

Jaguar Land Rover's in-vehicle webstore needed an upgrade to match modern mobile app store expectations. It serves as a hub for apps, firmware updates, and performance enhancements for the vehicle's computer.

Jaguar Land Rover transitioned to a digital instrument cluster, and I helped redesign the UI for clarity and brand alignment. I developed a flexible layout for driver customization—prioritizing navigation, diagnostics, or media—and worked with engineers to refine motion design for a smoother, more responsive experience.

Conclusion

Revamping Jaguars and Land Rovers' infotainment screen involved a complex UX redesign to enhance the driving experience. Our team prioritized user needs, seamlessly integrated automated driving features, and emphasized simplicity and brand cohesion. The result is a sophisticated, user-friendly interface that embodies the luxury and innovation of these iconic automotive brands.

This journey showcases the impact of UX design on elevating the driver-vehicle connection in the age of automated driving.
